February

Happy Black History Month

“History has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.” ~Michelle Obama

As a new principal and a mother, I am encouraged to model this to our students and my children. It can be hard to step out of our comfort zone, to take a risk, and to be vulnerable. I find that when I tap into the courage to do something hard or try something new, at least one of two things happen: I succeed or I learn. I invite you to model this for the children in your life and share with them how it makes you feel. Celebrate the risks they take to get on stage, to create something new, or to find the light in a hard situation. Let’s spread courage and hope.

We continue through the month of February with gratitude of all that we have and excitement of all the upcoming events. Corey Cubs continue to enjoy learning through arts integrated and culturally relevant experiences!

TMEA Performance

The ⭐️Corey Cub Chorus ⭐️ directed by Felipe Rosales, did a phenomenal job performing at TMEA in San Antonio!

As only one out of three elementary choirs selected to perform at this statewide event, our talented, bilingual, artists showed the state how successful our Fine Arts and Dual Language Program continues to be.

PTA School of Excellence

At Corey, we value a growth mindset, and are constantly looking for ways to improve the experience of students and families. This year, we are thrilled to partner with PTA in the School of Excellence Project to bring more information and resources to our community.

In January, we hosted our first session of Corey Connections to help “new to Corey” families learn more about our school and program. Although this opportunity targets new families, ANY Corey parent is welcome to hear more about our school. Parents submitted questions to which Corey PTA and our School leaders collaboratively answered.

Follow the link below to see the Corey Connection- January presentation with a variety of resources included, and be on the look out for more!

COREY CONNECTIONS-JANUARY SESSION

As a part of our PTA School of Excellence project, we are proud to announce that our PTA has partnered with Arlington ISD’s Special Education Department and Partners Resource Network (PRN) to host an Information Workshop to our community. Please see the flyer below for details. This event is open to anyone in Arlington or neighboring areas.

Additionally, we’d like to make you aware of a Corey parent support Facebook group for Neurodivergent children. Similar to the Parent Facebook groups by cohort, this private, parent managed group seeks to provide a positive and encouraging way for Corey parents to connect and learn from each other.
