Meet your new admin team

Mrs. Cynthia Anthony

Principal

Over the past 14 years, I have taught Kindergarten through 4th grades, and served as a Reading Specialist. At Corey, I've taught in Kindergarten, 3rd Grade, and 4th Grade. I served as Assistant Principal for three years. Now, I am grateful to serve as Corey's Principal.

I have two energetic daughters who are also here as Corey Cubs. So, as a school leader, former teacher, and parent, I am committed to ensure Corey is a safe, inclusive, and positive environment to all families. I'm looking forward to getting to share more about my story with you this year!

Mr. Omar Alonso

Assistant Principal

Teaching is my second career and I am so glad I made the change. I started teaching in Irving ISD in their dual language program. I then switched to Birdville ISD where I taught 6th, 7th, and 8th Grades. For the past two years, I've served as Corey's testing facilitator and I am honored to serve as the new Assistant Principal.

Registration

Our front office staff is working very hard to ensure all students are properly registered. Our incoming Kindergarteners always take more time since they are new to Corey, but our returning students are easier to process. We have completed registration for the majority of our families and informed parents of their child's teachers. If you have not yet completed this process or do not know your child's teachers, please call the office at 682-867-3900 and we are happy to assist. Our new clerk- Ms. Puente, and our secretary-Ms. Jarvis, are working extremely hard to help as many parents as fast as possible.

Thank you for your patience as we support all Corey families to get registered.

School Supplies

EPI Supply Pack were delivered to the school, and PTA has delivered them to your child's grade level hallway. Thank you, PTA, for making this a convenient and affordable way for students to get their supplies.

If you did not order supplies in advance, it's okay. The supply list for each grade level is shown to the right. You can bring these supplies during Sneak-a-Peek or the first day of school.

Arrival Procedures

The first week of school's arrival procedures will be different than the rest of the year.

Wednesday, August 16th - Friday, August 18th

After signing into the front office and receiving a visitor's badge, parents may escort students directly to class. Our school's main doors open at 7:30 a.m., but classrooms are not open until 8:05. All students will come to the cafeteria and dismiss to the classrooms at 8:05 a.m. We ask that everyone parks in the lower parking lot (not in front of the school). Handicap parking is available in the front of the building. Additional handicap parking is available on the east side of the building, closest to Kelly Elliott Rd.

Parents may walk their child to class the first three days of school (Wednesday through

Friday).

New security procedure: Starting the first day of school, ALL adults must pass through the front office to get their visitor's badge. Therefore, the Kinder/1st grade gate will be closed for the first 3 days of school. This will help the staff ensure ALL adults receive their badge. Please leave it on your shirt until you leave Corey.

The Rest of the School Year

7:30 a.m. School doors open for those who need to drop-off early. All students will be dropped off at the front entrance, proceed to the cafeteria to eat breakfast (if desired) and to wait for their teachers. Students may read quietly, draw, or whisper. Bus riders are dropped off in the bus loading/un-loading zone on the side of the building and then enter cafeteria. Students will remain in the cafeteria until 8:05 a.m. when they will be escorted to their grade level areas.

Drop Off: All students will need to be dropped off in the front of the building (front entrance). Please make sure to drop off students in the designated areas only, and to follow instructions from staff members working the cross-walk.

Visitors: No visitors will be allowed for breakfast, but will be allowed for lunch. We have many students in the cafeteria before school starts, so we ask for your assistance in making sure that we can manage the quantity of students safely.

8:10 a.m. First bell will ring and instruction will begin. Students will engage in community time or bell-ringer activities in the classroom. If at all possible, please make sure to have students on campus by this time.

8:20 a.m. Tardy bell. Students who arrive past 8:20 a.m. will need to stop by the office for a tardy pass. The expectation is that students are in their classroom (not entering the building) by 8:20 a.m.

Kinder/First Grade Students: Kinder and First Grade students (only) who are dropped off between 8:10 and 8:20 a.m. can be dropped off at the gate by the Kinder pod entrance. Before 8:10 a.m., they will be dropped off at the main entrance and proceed to the cafeteria just like older students.

Grid

Dismissal Procedures

Our dismissal bell rings at 3:35 p.m. daily. Students will remain in the building during this process and will be picked up in the front of the school. Please make sure your child's name tag is clearly visible on your windshield. Our staff will input each family's designated number, and it really slows down the process when they have to stop each car and ask parents to provide their child's name. For safety purposes, we need all families to display their dismissal tag.

We ask that all parents remain in their vehicles during this process. We will not have "walk-up" pick-up. Parents have the option of allowing their children to be "walkers" (North Walkers or South Walkers). These students will be escorted by staff members off the school grounds and towards their final destination. North Walkers exit the building and pass our playground area as they walk north. South Walkers exit the building and walk towards our school marquee and crosswalk. This is the designated crosswalk (with a crossing-guard) on Kelly Elliott Road.

Some of our families may also select to enroll their child in the various Day Cares in the area or to use AISD transportation. Those students will wait in the cafeteria and load the AISD bus or daycare bus in our bus loading zone. Please do not drive into our bus loading zone because we will only release car riders at the front of the building in the loading zones in the main drive-way area.

Mrs. Uribe has created an informative video to further explain the arrival and dismissal process.

Early Pick-Up

The end of the day can be quite busy as our students prepare to go home, our teachers provide last minute instructions, and our classes move to their designated dismissal areas. We also have a line that begins forming in our drive-way as parents arrive to the campus.

We ask that there are no "Early Pick-ups" after 3:00 p.m. If you need to pick up your child before the regularly scheduled dismissal time, you must arrive in the office prior to 3:00 p.m.

Grid

Visitors/ Volunteers

Please remember that student safety is our number one priority. All visitors to the campus, without exception, need to ring our doorbell at the front doors to request access into the building. You will need to state your name, name of student, and reason for the visit. All visitors need to provide a valid picture identification to be processed through the system and obtain a visitor's pass. This visitor's pass/sticker (or volunteer pass) should be worn in a visible area at all times. Visitors must exit through the office area and turn in their visitor pass/sticker. For safety reasons, we need to know who is in our building at all times.

No visitors will be allowed for breakfast, but will be allowed for lunch. We have many students in the cafeteria before school starts, so we ask for your assistance in making sure that we can manage the quantity of students safely. Please remember that only those individuals listed on the student's registration form will be able to have access to students during the day to join them for lunch or pick-up.

Conferences and volunteer opportunities need to be pre-scheduled with the teacher/s or through our Corey Cubs PTA volunteer program. If you haven't done so already, please consider completing an AISD Volunteer Application for this school year.

PTA

Our Corey Cubs PTA plays such an integral role in our school community. We look forward to working together once more this school year. Please see information below from our Corey PTA:

Have you ever wondered where your PTA membership dollars go? From the $8.50 that you pay to join PTA, $2.25 goes to National PTA, $2.25 goes to Texas PTA, and $4.00 comes right back here to Corey. We use these funds for things like field trips for our students, reimbursing our teachers for school supplies they purchase, and even giving back to our community by giving away a scholarship to a high school senior in our district. Your PTA membership does so much more than you know. For only $8.50 you are partnering with our PTA to provide the best possible school experience for our students and staff here at Dean P. Corey Academy of Fine Arts and Dual Language. We could not do this without YOU!

To join PTA, please go to www.joinpta.org and select the AISD option and then select the Corey option.
