Sunny September!

The school year is off to a great start as students and teachers work together to build relationships, develop social contracts, and get settled into a fun routine of creating and growing. During the past two weeks, we have been engaged in our Beginning of the Year Assessments. The information gathered will provide us with invaluable information as we support students in their learning. Teachers will reach out to parents to schedule fall conferences in order to review each child’s data and discuss how we will work together to maximize their learning experience this school year. Even in the midst of the assessment period, we still have time to engage in various learning activities.

PTA hosted an informative Volunteer Training for our volunteers. Dad’s Club kicked off with Donuts with Dudes on the patio. We are also enjoying members of the Apex Team until September 14th’s Apex Fun Run Event! They are actively engaging with our students in Leadership lessons, recess, drop-off, dismissal and various incentives during our fundraiser.

Donuts with Dudes

Thank you to the “dudes” who came to have a donut with your “cub” at our Dad’s Club Kickoff. Please consider joining the Dad’s Club this year and make a huge impact on all children who will get the benefit of seeing positive male role models at Corey. For more information, reach out to Josh Audi at dadsclub@coreypta.org.

Hispanic Heritage Month

From September 15th- October 15th, we celebrate the unique history and incredible contributions of those from Hispanic ancestry.

Students will learn about and celebrate this beautiful culture through classroom lessons, projects, and our Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at Corey on Thursday, September 14th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. This will also be PTA’s first official meeting, so please bring the family and join us for a night of fun and learning.

Parking Lot

As a reminder, the building opens at 7:30 a.m. If you arrive prior to 7:30 a.m., please do NOT park in the staff parking spots.

For dismissal, please do NOT enter and park near the bus lanes. This is a one-way entrance into our property that we must leave open. We have noticed that a few parents of South Walkers are parking there to pick up their walkers. Thank you for your cooperation. The ‘no parking area’ is marked in red on the picture below.

Spirit Days

Did you know that we LOVE to celebrate all the things at Corey? Each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday our staff celebrates different things with a special t-shirt and jeans. We invite your child to join us:

Mondays- College Day. To promote post secondary education, wear your favorite college gear.

Wednesdays- Gunn & Arlington HS Day- To celebrate our Fine Arts & Dual Language feeder pattern, wear Gunn Jr. High or Arlington HS gear.

Fridays- It’s a COREY Thing! Wear your favorite Corey shirt. Go Cubs!

Lost and Found

Thank you to Dr. & Mrs. Hampton and the PTA for your help with Corey’s Lost & Found.

There are several items that students leave in class or around the school building that do not have names. We would like to return them to their owner. Periodically throughout the year, we will post pictures from the Lost and Found on Class Dojo’s School Story so you can see what is there.

If you see something that belongs to your child, have them ask their teacher to visit the Lost & Found during the school day. Parents may also come to school in the morning (7:50-8:20) to retrieve items.

Grandparents’ Day

“A grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend.” -unknown

Thank you to all of the Grandparents who help love on our children and help parent the parents. Thank you for your patience and your giving nature. You are appreciated. Happy Grandparents’ Day!

Visitors/ Volunteers

Please remember that student safety is our number one priority. All visitors to the campus, without exception, need to ring our doorbell at the front doors to request access into the building. You will need to state your name, name of student, and reason for the visit. All visitors need to provide a valid picture identification to be processed through the system and obtain a visitor's pass. This visitor's pass/sticker (or volunteer pass) should be worn in a visible area at all times. Visitors must exit through the office area and turn in their visitor pass/sticker. For safety reasons, we need to know who is in our building at all times.

No visitors will be allowed for breakfast, but will be allowed for lunch. We have many students in the cafeteria before school starts, so we ask for your assistance in making sure that we can manage the quantity of students safely. Please remember that only those individuals listed on the student's registration form will be able to have access to students during the day to join them for lunch or pick-up.

Conferences and volunteer opportunities need to be pre-scheduled with the teacher/s or through our Corey Cubs PTA volunteer program. If you haven't done so already, please consider completing an AISD Volunteer Application for this school year.
